GENERAL CONTRACTORS LICENSING PROGRAM

The Contractors School of Arizona, a division of Educational Systems, LTD., Inc. is located at 7142 East First Street, Scottsdale, Arizona, and has been in adult education since 1969.  Since then, the school has grown to be one of the most respected private educational institutions in the country.  A unique teaching format, coupled with a select group of instructors and administrators, has given the school its deserved reputation. 

The contractors licensing program is a comprehensive 24-hour program specializing in contracting trade and business management preparation for the residential and commercial contracting examinations. The class format involves outside reading, classroom lectures and frequent quizzes.  Our instructors encourage student participation. 

The following will explain the procedures necessary to obtain the General Contractors Class B, B-1, B-2, B-3, KB-1, and KB-2 Licenses.  You will find our courses to be professional in their approach and challenging in their content.

Requirements for the General Contractors Applicant

If you are applying for a contractors license: 

1. Prior to issuance of a license, the qualifying party shall have had four years practical and management trade experience two of which must have been within the last ten years, dealing specifically in area(s) of license application, or its equivalent. 

2. Successfully pass, by written examination, a General Contractors test, which consists of two parts: 

a. Trade Examination , General contractor information and calculations related to the license classification for which one is applying.  Approximate length of exam: 3 hours. 

b. Business management , Licensing Law, Rules and Regulations, Lien Laws, Labor Laws, Insurance, Bonds, Workers' Compensation, Accounting, Math & Business Management. Approximate length of exam: 2 hours.  

3. Testing feeis $125.00 for both exams. There is a $72.00 per test re-take charge.  Same day exams may be scheduled on a space available basis.

4 . Examinations are given in Phoenix by Experior. Here is a map of the Experior Testing Center locations. Applications for the test are made by calling Experior at 800-899-4089 Those applying for a General Contractors License must take and pass the examinations before submitting the completed application forms to the Registrar of Contractors.

5. A twenty day posting period is required for all new applicants.

6. An Original license is issued for two years.

7. Residency is not required.

8. You cannot work or bid until you have the license in hand.

9. You should contact the Registrar of Contractors for an information packet and the application forms.
