Publisher’s Letter

Nate Hoelzen

President, Arizona Journal of Real Estate & Business 

Dear Readers,

I’m proud to have assumed the roles of President of the Arizona School of Real Estate & Business (ASREB) and publisher of the Journal. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I’ve been involved in real estate and lending education since 2006, and I previously served as president at Arizona Academy of Real Estate.

After graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in broadcast journalism, I spent time in both television and radio developing a diverse marketing perspective and philosophy on business development in quickly changing industries. This experience and direction brings emphasis and awareness to ASREB’s role in the real estate and lending industries, and keeps us at the forefront of the changing dynamics of our industries. I am also deeply committed to keeping our school closely involved in our campus communities. I look forward to leading our school into the future as we continue to offer the kind of superior quality education that has been our hallmark for over four decades.

Our forward-thinking philosophy goes hand in hand with Governor Ducey’s goal of ensuring that technological growth meets our needs in this industry. In fact, this issue’s focus on cybersecurity aligns with the governor’s recent executive order for the creation of an Arizona Cybersecurity Team (ACT). Please see Arizona Department of Real Estate Commissioner Judy Lowe’s article on page 11.

As our school progresses into the future, we must understand how technology will affect the real estate industry. It is true that these modern conveniences make it easy for us to connect with our clients and do business faster and more efficiently than previously thought possible. However, as this technology interconnects, industry-wide cybersecurity becomes more of a priority. We agree when the governor says “cyberattacks are a serious and consistent threat to our state and we must take appropriate countermeasures.”

Writers in this issue talk about cybersecurity, with a focus on how cyberattacks happen and how the industry and agents are taking measures toward prevention. On April 27, 2018, we will continue the conversation through a cybersecurity seminar. You can find more information on this seminar on page 19, and I encourage all who are interested to participate.

Lastly, I would like to personally thank everyone for their ongoing support of the Arizona School of Real Estate & Business as well as the Journal, our hallmark publication for more than 30 years.
