In my 30 years as an agent, broker, trainer, author, and coach, hundreds of highly successful agents have been generous enough to share their best strategies, tips, routines, and formulas for success. I put together a list of fundamentals that may help you in your efforts to be great in real estate.

Develop consistent systems and routines.

As a real estate professional, you are an independent contractor. Believe in yourself as your own company (You, Inc.). Track your performance weekly, monthly, and annually.

Maintain regular business hours.

Implement continuous lead generation and revenue-producing activities. Understand that the fortune is in the follow-up.

Specialize!

This is the era of “niche marketing.” Find a group of people you enjoy working with on their behalf. Learn all you can about them and customize your services to fit their needs.

Prospect every day!

Create clever, unique promotion pieces and include information about your life. It is not the quantity of the pieces that matters as much as the quality of your promotion. Videos are an internet sensation for sending out stories of interest, market updates, and short promotional clips.

Show enthusiasm!

Be excited about your job. Read success stories, listen to CDs and podcasts, watch videos, or download a new app to help keep you motivated and productive.

Remember your wins.

In the real estate industry, never dwell on the losses.

Commit to learning.

Embrace the use of technology and digital communication. Take one class a month to stay current with the ever-changing methods of communication and dissemination of information.

Invest in yourself.

Ten to 15 percent of what you earn should be reinvested in You, Inc. Invest money in quality business cards, videos, brochures, personal stationary with envelopes, and memorable gifts for your clients. Buy some personalized “For Sale” signs. Create an attractive, user-friendly, and resourceful website.

Don’t tolerate mistakes.

Take pride in anything and everything you send out to your clients.

You are in the customer service business, not real estate.

Do what is best for the client and you’ll always be doing the best for yourself.

Make time to do what you enjoy doing most.

Take vacations as often as possible to help keep things in perspective. Schedule mini-vacations well in advance to increase the likelihood of them occurring.

Do all of the above by getting up early! Express gratitude, engage the mind, exercise the body, embrace the family, and then…get to work!
