How to Become a Real Estate Broker in Arizona

The process of how to become a real estate broker in Arizona is similar to what you went through when you earned your real estate license. Keep reading to learn the Arizona broker license requirements – including how long the process takes and the benefits of becoming a broker.

Arizona Broker License Requirements

Experienced real estate agents must take broker courses and pass a licensing exam and background check to become a broker in Arizona. Let’s do a deep dive into the details so you can learn the next steps in advancing your real estate career and increasing your earning potential.

Arizona broker prerequisites

To get an Arizona broker license, you must have three years of active licensed real estate experience within the last five years. To verify this experience, fill out the Broker Candidate Experience Verification Form (LI-226).

Please note that if your salesperson license is for another state, you will need a certified licensed history from that state.

Arizona broker education requirements

The Arizona Department of Real Estate requires a 90-hour broker pre-licensing education course. The course must be taken from an approved Arizona real estate school, and you must pass the school’s course exam.

Do your research when selecting a real estate school for your broker education. Consider package pricing – as well as the school’s reputation and what school has the highest exam pass rates.

Arizona broker exam requirements

In addition to passing the real estate education company’s course exam, you must also pass the Arizona broker licensing exam.

Pearson Vue administers the test. Check out the Candidate Handbook to learn more about test-taking procedures. Here are some of the highlights:

  • You must schedule your exam at least 24 hours before the desired examination date by completing a reservation at the Pearson Vue website or by calling (888) 405-5776.
  • When you schedule your exam, make sure you use your legal name as found on your government-issued ID.
  • The Arizona real estate broker exam costs $125.
  • Candidates have 315 minutes to complete the 195-question exam.
  • You need to achieve 75% to pass the exam.

If you don’t pass the exam, you must pay to retake the test. Getting a high-quality pre-licensing education will save you time and money – and help you start working as a broker ASAP.

Background check for Arizona brokers

All applicants must obtain a fingerprint clearance card as part of the real estate licensing process. Obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card Application here.

Complete the application thoroughly and accurately using blue or black ink. Submit the application, a $67 processing fee, and your fingerprint card to the state.

The Arizona School of Real Estate and Business (ASREB) can help you with the fingerprinting process. Check the schedule online and bring a $20 check or cash and your ID to one of the ASREB sites.

Please note that fingerprint clearance cards are valid for six years.

Along with passing your background check, you must provide proof of legal presence in the United States.

Attend a Broker Management Clinic

As the final step in the licensing process, new broker licensees must complete three, 3-hour Broker Management Clinic classes with a real estate education provider. This course will help refine your management skills and implement effective tactics in your business.

Classes may be taken in any order and at your own pace online, in-person, or via livestream.
