August 2019 – Letter From the School Director

Greg Muir
Interim School Director, Arizona Journal of Real Estate & Business

Dear friends,

I hope you all have enjoyed summer and the fun vacations and activities that tend to come with this season. Whether you stayed close to home or found a new vacation spot, I trust you got the rest and relaxation needed to come back feeling refreshed.

In this issue of The Journal, you’ll learn from area experts about the commercial real estate (CRE) industry in Phoenix. From the general landscape and buying strategies to technology in this industry, this issue is packed with thoughtful advice to guide you through the commercial real estate industry. As jobs and the economy continue to rise at a steady pace, the presence of commercial properties will do the same.

Some may think that the commercial real estate industry would be heading toward a decline. This may be true for some retail-based properties, as many department stores across the country are shutting down their brick-and-mortar locations. The internet has proven that people don’t need to leave their houses to buy clothing, shoes, or even groceries. However, this thinking excludes the experience retail-based industries for which people will (generally speaking) always need. Movie theaters, sport and event stadiums, as well as necessities like hospitals and recovery centers, will always need a physical location. As long as these industries continue to adapt to new technology and meet consumer desires, the commercial real estate industry in Phoenix will continue to grow and expand.

I hope you will join us for the next edition of our seminar series titled, “Commercial Development: Trends and Opportunities,” on August 16th at our Scottsdale campus. You’ll have the opportunity to hear from a panel of professionals in the industry about the landscape of commercial real estate development in Phoenix. The seminar will be beneficial for those in the real estate industry looking to expand their knowledge of the area.

Hope to see you at the seminar!

Greg Muir
