I didn't ever expect to like sales, but I love it!
I worked in logistics for about three years. I loved the relationship part of it—the long-lasting feeling that you're really making a difference in these people's day-to-day lives and helping them with something that makes their lives easier and more efficient. I would go the extra mile.
I was coming to the end of my last job, and I had this gut feeling that it was time for the next adventure. I felt myself leaning toward real estate.
I lived in Iowa most of my life. I knew a handful of people in residential and commercial real estate, and they all talked about how their flexible careers enabled them to be with their families. I filed this away in the back of my mind.
I enjoyed my business classes and had an entrepreneurial mindset in school. But I always thought I had to have a big idea to make money. I later realized that a real estate business could help me fulfill my dream of being a business owner.
I heard about the Arizona School of Real Estate and Business (ASREB) from a friend. He got his license a couple of years ago and recommended that I attend the school for in-person classes. We chatted on a Saturday, and I signed up that Sunday for the next day's start class on Monday.
I really liked the in-person format at ASREB. I had the same instructor for all nine mornings, and the afternoon instructors rotated. Everyone was wonderful. They prepped us for what would be on the test, and their teaching helped me recall the material. (Mnemonics are helpful when covering so much stuff in so little time!)
ASREB's exam prep couldn't be more spot on. I give ASREB a 10 out of 10 for preparing you for the state test. If you dive into that content, you'll 100 percent pass. I passed the first time, which is good because it’s expensive to take. ASREB gives you all the tools you need to pass and get your license.
ASREB also went that extra step in preparing me for the profession. The instructors prepared me to ask good questions as a new agent and even shared questions to ask brokers when I was looking for a job.
I’m the kind of person who jumps right into new challenges. The day that I signed up with the brokerage, they were having a training session for new agents. The trainers asked us to stand up and give an elevator speech. And I did it! Giving an elevator speech is like having something in your back pocket, like a verbal business card. Since that experience, I've shared my elevator speech with checkout clerks at Target and people I meet on the golf course.
My passion lies in helping other people. I want to make money, but I want to put the needs of others first. I want to be a knowledgeable resource for others and help them, whether they wish to invest in their future with secondary properties or find their forever home.
I also like the growth aspect of this career. My head operates where there's room for advancement. I want to get better at my job by continuously learning. I hope to have a rewarding real estate career by helping others.
