Mike Haenal
Commercial Real Estate Broker
Of The Year 2015

Why did you choose a career as a commercial real estate broker?
I knew I didn’t want to continue to deliver Pizza for Domino’s. My Dad was in the commercial real estate business and my Mom was a residential broker, so I knew enough to be dangerous. Here I am 30 years later – still in the business. It’s been a fun ride and I’m grateful for the wonderful relationships that I’ve made over the years.

What are your top 3 ingredients for success as it relates to your field?

A commercial real estate broker’s success depends on:

  1. Persistence
  2. Experience
  3. Relationship building

What is your philosophy on community service and your favorite local cause – and why?
I feel blessed and grateful that I’m able to “give back” to our community. Phoenix has been so good to me and my family. I enjoy being able to serve those in need; especially those that need medical care and education. Muhammad Ali said it best: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”

In what ways would you suggest someone give back to the commercial industry?
The commercial real estate industry needs volunteers. Organizations such as NAIOP, ULI, Valley Partnership, SIOR and many more continue to need new members to help make a difference in the commercial real estate industry. Another way to be of service is to become a mentor. Sharing information that was so freely given to all of us is a great way to be of service.

What is your most memorable Arizona news story/headline and why?
“Phoenix Open Still Delivering Great Golf and Good Times” (Feb 2015)
I’m a proud member of The Thunderbirds. I couldn’t be happier with the unbelievable community support and commitment of the Phoenix Open annual event that generates millions of dollars for local charities.
