Why did you choose a career as a commercial leader?
I chose commercial real estate because it provides the opportunity to work with talented, proactive, achievement- minded professionals who generally are grateful and generous by nature. These are the kind of people who I like to be around!

What are your top 3 ingredients for success as it relates to your field?

  1. A willingness to always do the right thing.
  2. Have a grateful heart.
  3. A commitment and ability to always put your clients’ needs before your own.

What is your philosophy on community service and your favorite local cause – and why?
I believe that involvement in the community is what will ultimately create all of our long-term identities in the marketplace. My biggest community commitment has been to start, with a handful of friends, the Great Hearts academies charter school network in Arizona, which currently runs 19 schools attended by nearly 10,000 students. It has been a great pleasure and honor to participate in the formation of the Great Hearts organization.

In what ways would you suggest someone give back to the commercial real estate industry?
I am a Board member of NAIOP – one of our four organizational pillars is philanthropy. Last year, for example, NAIOP served over 10,000 meals to neighbors in need through the creation of “dream teams” that combine member firms to feed the homeless. This is just one example of many ways to “give back.”I also see mentoring young professionals as an important way to support commercial real estate.

What is your most memorable Arizona news story/headline and why?
I began my career working for Charlie Keating, who I found to be a very talented and fascinating man. All of the stories surrounding his “fall from public grace” were especially interesting and thought-provoking for me. Charlie had a big impact on my career. I still had the chance to speak with him periodically long after he disappeared from the media spotlight.
